Kumkumadi Taila (कुमकुमादि तैल)

While multiple variations exist, a classical Kumkumadi Taila usually includes the following herbs:

  • Kumkuma (Crocus sativus) – Complexion enhancer, antioxidant
  • Manjishtha (Rubia cordifolia) – Blood purifier, anti-acne
  • Lodhra (Symplocos racemosa) – Astringent, anti-inflammatory
  • Haridra (Curcuma longa) – Antiseptic, detoxifying
  • Daruharidra (Berberis aristata) – Reduces pigmentation
  • Yashtimadhu (Glycyrrhiza glabra) – Softening, anti-aging
  • Chandana (Santalum album) – Cooling, fragrance, anti-inflammatory
  • Laksha (Laccifer lacca) – Skin repair
  • Taila (Tila Taila / Sesame oil) – Base oil with nourishing properties
  • Go dugdha (Cow’s milk) – Cooling, moisturizing
  • Padmaka, Vatankura, and other supporting herbs

Preparation Method (Sanskrit: Taila Paka Vidhi):

The herbs are first decocted and combined with a paste (Kalka) and sesame oil. This is then slowly heated and cooked as per classical Taila paka procedures, infusing the active constituents into the oil.

Rasa-Guna-Virya-Vipaka:

  • Rasa: Madhura, Tikta, Kashaya
  • Guna: Snigdha, Laghu
  • Virya: Sheeta (cooling)
  • Vipaka: Madhura
  • Prabhava: Varnya (complexion-enhancing)

  • Varnya: Improves natural glow and radiance

  • Take a few drops and massage gently in an upward circular motion
  • Leave on for 20–30 minutes or overnight
  • Use daily or 3–4 times a week, depending on skin type
  • It can also be blended with rosewater or aloe vera gel for sensitive skin
